logistics of production

  • Why is it important to budget and pre-plan expenditure for a media production?
It is important to pre-plan expenditure because the production may not make profit if too much money is spent on the production. Pre planning helps to prevent wasting money on things that are not necessary which will lead to a greater profit when the product is released. This also means a faster production time if everything is pre-planned which also saves money.

  • Give an example of how even when pre-planning and budgeting happens, unforeseen circumstances can affect production.
Unforeseen circumstances such as weather or injury can affect production and can even prolong production time meaning a higher cost. An actor could be injured while filming and this could mean that planning has to be changed and other scenes that involve the other actors have to be filmed until the injured actor is able to work again. For example Tom Cruise fractured his ankle while filming a stunt for mission impossible which prolonged filming.
  • Outline some of the logistics for pre-production, production and post production stages of a films production.
A detailed production schedule will need to be created to make sure that expenditure is within the budget and the production will be finished in time so that no excess money will be spent on paying actors or renting the location. Accommodation and food will be needed for all the actors for the time of the production
